Medical Sciences Faculty Holds Laboratory Biosafety Training

The Faculty of Medical Sciences at Al-Janad University for Science and Technology, in cooperation with the Al-Janad Training and Skills Development Center, conducted a specialized training program on “Strategies for Mitigating Biological Risks in Laboratories.” The program targeted teaching assistants and technicians and formed part of the university’s efforts to strengthen professional competence and promote a culture of safety and quality in academic and laboratory environments.

The program equipped participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to manage biological risks. It covered the identification and assessment of hazards, the selection of appropriate mitigation strategies, biosafety and biosecurity principles, and procedures for responding to and investigating incidents.

The training included several theoretical and practical topics, including risk assessment, the hierarchy of controls, change management, safety culture, incident and near-miss management, root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, performance indicators, and continuous improvement. Practical activities, case studies, and simulations were also used to connect theoretical concepts with workplace practice.

The program supports the Faculty of Medical Sciences’ efforts to enhance the professional readiness of its academic and technical staff and strengthen institutional practices that support the quality of education, training, and laboratory services. It also contributes to building a safer laboratory environment and promoting a strong culture of biosafety and biosecurity.
