The university’s Department of Medical Laboratories has organised a field visit for third-year students to the National Blood Transfusion Centre in Taiz, as part of the practical component of the Blood Bank course. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen students’ technical skills and bridge classroom learning with clinical practice.

During the visit, students were given a first-hand overview of the blood donation process, from donor reception and initial screening to blood collection carried out in line with established medical standards. They were also introduced to the centre’s operational procedures, with a focus on protecting donor safety and ensuring the quality of collected blood.

The programme included exposure to advanced equipment used in the separation of blood components, as well as protocols for handling each component individually. Students also learned about proper storage practices, including temperature control and compliance with medical requirements.

The visit provided valuable practical experience, enhancing students’ technical competencies and deepening their understanding of the vital role blood banks play in supporting healthcare systems and saving lives.
