    Al-Janad University for Science and Technology has inaugurated its student chess championship, organised by the Student Activities Department within the Deanship of Student Affairs and held under the auspices of University President, Professor Mohyeddine Al-Qubati.

    The initiative forms part of the university’s ongoing commitment to enriching the student experience through co-curricular engagement, fostering intellectual development, and identifying emerging talent across a range of disciplines.

    The championship is designed to cultivate a spirit of fair competition while enhancing students’ decision-making abilities, concentration, and patience. It also seeks to strengthen analytical and critical thinking skills, contributing to the development of well-rounded graduates equipped to navigate complex challenges.

    The opening ceremony was attended by Mohammed Al-Athwari, Head of the Taiz Branch of the Chess Federation, Dr Sami Al-Abyadh, the university’s Legal Auditor, and Mr Murad Alaya, Student Activities Coordinator. In their remarks, speakers underscored the importance of such initiatives in nurturing student talent and encouraging creativity, excellence, and sustained intellectual engagement.
