The Dental Internship Program in the Department of Dentistry at the university launched today a comprehensive training course in basic and advanced orthodontics, with participation from internship dentists as well as several practitioners from outside the program.

The course, delivered by Dr. Farouq Al-Dhafri, is part of the university’s effort to enhance the skills of young medical professionals. It runs for eight days, offering 40 training hours that combine theoretical instruction with hands-on clinical application.

The opening day provided an overview of the history of orthodontics and the evolution of its major schools, followed by an introduction to the fundamentals of fixed and removable orthodontic techniques and a review of the various appliances used in the field.

The program also offered a detailed explanation of the main treatment approaches, including skeletal treatment aimed at correcting jaw relationships, aesthetic treatment designed to improve smile appearance, and functional treatment for addressing disorders related to oral function.

Dr. Al-Dhafri emphasized that these core principles form the foundation for the advanced clinical applications to be covered in the upcoming sessions. He underscored the importance of specialized training in enhancing practitioners’ competencies and supporting the overall quality of dental care services.
